Cari Shafer
LSW, MSW
“I work with teens, adults, and “helpers” who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start. I specialize in grief, trauma, and perinatal mental health, supporting clients through major life transitions, pregnancy and postpartum challenges, and the impact of past difficult experiences. Many people come in wanting a place to talk openly, make sense of what’s been weighing on them, and find a steadier, more grounded path forward.”
How I Work
My approach is warm, collaborative, and human. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and tailor therapy to your unique needs. In sessions, we explore what’s been heavy, understand the impact of past experiences, and build practical tools to help you feel steadier, more in control, and connected to yourself.
I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which helps the brain process trauma and stressful experiences in a deeper, more integrated way. I also focus on helping you gain clarity, notice emotional patterns, and strengthen the parts of your life that already support you.
I honor every part of who you are. Your culture, race, gender, sexuality, spirituality, identity, and lived experience. My work with grief and loss is both professional and personal, and I value creating a safe space to process emotions, remember loved ones, and find meaning.
We Might Work Well Together If:
• You appreciate a warm, collaborative approach.
• You want therapy that is authentic, approachable, and human.
• You’re interested in EMDR to work through trauma.
• You want a safe space where your whole self is welcome.
A Bit About Me
Outside of sessions, I spend time with my daughter, husband, and our dog. I love coffee, long walks, reading, and board games. I also regularly meet with my own therapist because I believe in practicing what I encourage for others. My personal experiences with grief and connection deeply inform the compassion I bring to each session.
If therapy ever isn’t going in the direction you hoped, I’m always open to adjusting our approach or exploring other options. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you through whatever you’re carrying.
